Talish Caravanserai

Talish Caravanserai

The history of Talish Caravanserai goes back to the 13th century. The village of Talish is located 50 km northwest of the city of Iravan, 27 km west of Ashtarak, and 24 km southeast of Talin.

This medieval caravanserai was situated along the route connecting the cities of Ani and Dvin, which were part of the historic Silk Road. The route passed through settlements in the Chukhur-Saad plain and continued north toward Georgia and east to the Caspian Sea and Central Asia. The central hall of Talish Caravanserai was designated for animals, while the side chambers housed their owners and servants. The caravanserai is located about one kilometer from the village of Talish. Within the village area, there is also a partially ruined medieval fortress.

On November 11, 1970, by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR, the village was renamed "Aruch." According to the new administrative-territorial law of the Republic of Armenia, dated November 7, 1995, the village was incorporated into the administrative territory of Aragatsotn Province.
