Red Bridge

Red Bridge

Iravan’s oldest bridge, the Red Bridge, was rebuilt over the Zangi River after the earthquake of 1679. Made of red stone, the bridge was the only crossing over the river into the city, which gave it its name. It was historically important because a branch of the ancient Silk Road passed over it. Sometimes, it was also called the Zangi Bridge. It was 80 meters long, 11 meters high, and 4.8 meters wide. The structure had two main arches and a smaller auxiliary arch to handle overflow. After the Victory Bridge was built in 1945, the Red Bridge gradually stopped being used and fell into disrepair.
