Demirbulag Mosque
Also known as Körpügulaghi Mosque, due to its location near the bridge over the Gedar River, Demirbulag Mosque was the only functioning mosque in Iravan city until 1988. According to an inscription, it was constructed in Hijri year 1327 (Gregorian calendar year 1909). The mosque had no minaret; instead, a square open-air platform measuring 1.5-2 meters in height was built on the roof, surrounded by iron railings. This open structure, covered with an iron sheet roof, gave the mosque its nickname, "Umbrella Mosque."
In February 1988, following the rise of Armenian separatism in Nagorno-Karabakh, continuous protests occurred in Iravan. On February 23, Armenian vandals burned down the Demirbulag Mosque and the adjacent Azerbaijani secondary school No. 9, named after M.F. Akhundov. In 1990, the Demirbulag Mosque was completely destroyed.
