Sardar Mosque

Sardar Mosque

At various times, travelers and researchers referred to the mosque near the Sardar Palace within the Iravan Fortress as the "Sardar Mosque" or the "Abbas Mirza Mosque." After Russian troops ceased using the Iravan Fortress for military purposes in 1864, historical and architectural monuments within, including the Sardar Mosque, suffered severe damage. In the early 20th century, Armenian refugees arriving from Turkey settled within the mosque. During the Soviet era in Armenia, the Sardar Mosque was gradually dismantled, replaced by residential buildings.

By 2014, only a small fragment measuring approximately 2-3 meters in width and 3-4 meters in height remained from the Sardar Mosque complex. The construction company Glendale Hills built a residential complex on this site. In autumn 2014, Armenian vandals destroyed even these remaining fragments overnight.
